Magdalene Odundo — The Journey of Things
About
Magdalene Odundo, The Journey of Things, InOtherWords, 2019
The Kenyan born potter's vessels, placed beside the objects she has spent a lifetime looking at.
Odundo makes burnished clay vessels, coiled by hand, no wheel, each one taking months. The book accompanied her 2019 exhibition at The Hepworth Wakefield and sets 44 of her pieces against what she chose to show them beside: Egyptian and Greek vessels, historic African ceramics, a Hepworth, a Moore.
Interleaved sections let the pairings flow rather than argue.
This is version 4 of a book that keeps selling out.
