The book of Sofia Coppola's first documentary, a portrait of her friend Marc Jacobs.
Coppola and Jacobs met more than twenty years ago and have worked together many times since. Marc by Sofia, her first documentary feature, premiered out of competition at the Venice Film Festival in September 2025 and was released by A24.
The book takes the same story at its own pace. Parsons. The grunge collection for Perry Ellis. Louis Vuitton. The label under his own name. And the months before his 2024 runway show, which had a paper doll theme, with production sketches from his studio showing it come together.
Conversations between Coppola and Jacobs run through the pages, with hundreds of personal photographs and material from behind the scenes. The layout is loose and layered, closer to a scrapbook than a catalogue.
The title borrows from Marc by Marc Jacobs, his old second line.
