Encens — Issue 54
About
The autumn/winter 2025 issue of Encens, built around the theme of attitude, from the large-format Paris fashion magazine that has appeared twice yearly since 2002.
Samuel Drira, the editor-in-chief, founded Encens with the photographer Sybille Walter. The magazine treats fashion as an art form and looks at it from the designer's side rather than through trends.
Rhys Evans writes about Grace Mirabella and the feminist, workaholic woman shown in Vogue in July 1977. Dal Chodha profiles Isaac Mizrahi, who put attitude at the heart of his work as a designer and went so far as to star in a film about nobody but himself. Angelo Flaccavento considers Lagerfeld's relationship with his tailor, Caraceni, where private life and public persona meet, a story that also takes in Jacques de Bascher, Lagerfeld's lover.
Philip Clarke writes twice: on Giorgio Armani styling the far-sighted campaigns photographed by Aldo Fallai, his alter ego, and on Jean-Guillaume Mathiaut, who builds wooden shelters with obsessive care. A further piece looks at wearing Claude Montana's head-to-toe looks today, as though they were new.
