Jesse Glazzard — The Sound of Dirt and Beauty
About
Glazzard's first book: ten years of photographs taken among friends, partners and collaborators in the UK.
Glazzard comes from West Yorkshire and is now based in London. His pictures move between studio portraits and documentary views of daily life: bodies, bedrooms, gatherings, pages from diaries. The work comes out of working-class life and the queer underground, and it shows people as they are rather than as types. His own transition runs through the pages, set beside the changing lives of those close to him. The book sets out to keep a record of a present-day community that official histories tend to leave out.
The publisher describes the book as stapled and screen-printed, in the manner of the zines Glazzard has published himself: The World Before Sanitiser (2021) and In Order To Smile In A Tin Box (2024).
