Juergen Teller — Pictures and Text

Juergen Teller's weekly column for ZEITmagazin, the magazine of the German newspaper Die Zeit, collected in two books in a slipcase.

For more than a year the editors gave Teller a free hand: each week he chose one of his photographs and wrote a text to go with it, in German, which he had not written since his school days. Setting his own words beside his pictures was new to him, and it drew out the personal side of his work. The writing is as blunt as the photographs.

From the start the column had keen admirers, and fierce critics too. Hundreds of letters reached the editors, among them readers asking what pictures and texts like these were doing in their newspaper. The second book, Literature, gathers the pick of those letters. Christoph Amend contributes a foreword.
