MacGuffin — Issue 14: The Wall

Issue 14 of MacGuffin, the Amsterdam design biannual, devoted to the wall.

The wall is taken in all its forms: paywalls and curtain walls, green walls, fourth walls, uterine walls, and the apartheid wall in Palestine, as well as memorial murals in Jamaica and the ever taller glass fronts of office towers. Stories look at the consumer craze for brutalism and at wallpaper, walk through Paris by way of seven of its walls, follow the return of the underground bunker, meet a French free climber, and read the border walls built under Trump as land art. The editors treat the wall as something that both shelters and divides, and ask what we mean it to say.

Contributors include Rem Koolhaas and Seb Emina. The issue is edited by Kirsten Algera and Ernst van der Hoeven and designed by Sandra Kassenaar, with a brick-coloured cover.
