Rory Gardiner & Maxime Delvaux — Analogue Images
About
A book on two architectural photographers of the same generation, the Australian Rory Gardiner and the Belgian Maxime Delvaux, looked at together.
It began as a 2023 exhibition at the University of Sydney's Tin Sheds Gallery, the first time their pictures had been hung next to each other. For the book, the editors Guillermo Fernández-Abascal, Urtzi Grau and Janelle Woo doubled the twenty-two images shown in Sydney and added writing by the two photographers, by people they work with and by critics.
Most of the photographs were made on commission. Delvaux, who lives in Brussels, is regularly hired by Bruther, Baukunst, 51N4E and Christian Kerez; Gardiner, based in Melbourne, by Baracco+Wright, Candalepas Associates and Buchner Bründler Architekten, among others. The editors set out to do two things at once: to look critically at how the pair picture buildings, and to gather a body of good recent architecture.
