Casa BRUTUS — Extra Issue: At Home in Nature
About
A Casa BRUTUS extra issue about living close to nature, in two parts: houses in the mountains and by the sea, then camping.
The first part visits creative people who have made homes in the countryside, some as a new everyday base and some as weekend houses. Among them are Hideaki Yoshihara of HYKE, Hiroshi Ito of groovisions and Yosuke Aizawa of White Mountaineering. There is property advice for people drawn to the mountains or the sea, and an area guide to Karuizawa, Shonan, Nagano and Yamanashi, Hakone and Izu, and Gunma and Tochigi. Two architecture practices explain how to build a mountain house and a seaside house.
A chapter on classic cabins revisits Antonin Raymond's Summer House, Junzo Yoshimura's studio lodge for the painter Kazu Wakita and Michizo Tachihara's Hyacinth House. There are also visits to Nordic summer houses by Bruno Mathsson and Erik Gunnar Asplund. The photographer Yoshihiko Ueda shows his own seaside and mountain houses, in his pictures and his words.
The second part is about camping: camp setups and outdoor gear, people who fly-fish, roast coffee, paint or climb while camping (among them the illustrator Adrian Hogan), and practical chapters on making a fire and cooking a full meal outdoors.
