Erik Kessels — As Far As You Can See
About
An illustrated survey of the books Erik Kessels has made, from his first titles in 1997 up to Incomplete Encyclopedia of Touch.
Much of Kessels's work reuses pictures taken by other people, from family snapshots to failed photographs. This volume goes through that output title by title, 106 books in all, shown through their covers and page spreads laid out as a running timeline, together with video stills by Riccardo Ruffolo and Enrico Zanetti.
Francesco Zanot, a critic and curator, wrote a new text for it as a sequence of short notes, one per book, rather than one long essay. The project was curated by Commerce in Milan as part of Bibliography, its series of displays of the printed work of artists and publishers, and presented there in June 2025. Art direction and concept are by Cabinet Milano, with design by Francesco Valtolina and Nicola Narbone, and the book was printed in offset in an edition of 1,000 copies.
