Mark Manders & Roger Willems — The Images of Luis Barragán
About
Photographs of the pictures that Luis Barragán (1902–1988), the Mexican architect, kept on a lectern at home, made as a book project by Mark Manders and Roger Willems.
Barragán used a big wooden monk's lectern as a working archive of reproductions and illustrations. It stood in his living room in Mexico City, taking up most of the space before the large window onto the garden, and he kept changing what was laid out on it. Some 170 of the pictures are now registered.
In January 2011, on a visit to Mexico City, Manders and Willems photographed the images one at a time against the wooden floor of the house. The result reads as a record of what fed Barragán's thinking: influences, friendships and fixations.
