Jonas Mekas — Scrapbook of the Sixties: Writings 1954–2010
About
A collection of Jonas Mekas's writing from 1954 to 2010, bringing together texts that had already appeared in print with others that had not.
Mekas was born in Lithuania and reached Brooklyn by way of Germany in 1949. Filmmaker, poet and a co-founder of New York's Anthology Film Archives, he kept a diary on film of his everyday life and became one of the central figures of American avant-garde cinema. From 1958 he wrote Movie Journal each week for the Village Voice, and ranged well beyond film in it.
The book includes conversations with, among others, Susan Sontag, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Richard Foreman, Hermann Nitsch, Peter Kubelka, Nam June Paik, Judith Malina and Julian Beck of the Living Theatre, and John Lennon with Yoko Ono. Anne König edited the volume; Fabian Bremer and Pascal Storz designed it.
