Plethora — Issue 13: Poetics of Emptiness (Portfolio Edition)
About
The special portfolio edition of issue 13 of Plethora Magazine, on the theme Poetics of Emptiness.
The issue is about paper as a way of making emptiness felt: a textured sheet where light, shadow and printed ink meet, set against the flat surface of a screen. Philosophical texts on eight layers of emptiness run beside image series chosen to go with them. Artists featured in the issue include Josef Albers, Ruth Asawa, Frank Stella, Kenya Hara, Hélio Oiticica, Miho Kajioka, Ronan Bouroullec, Jack Whitten and J.M.W. Turner.
The portfolio holds eight reproductions of paper works by international artists, each made by hand through pressing, folding, embossing or perforating, alongside several kinds of specialised offset printing on papers sourced from around the world. The 60 pages include envelopes that hold these works. Everything sits in a riveted folder of white fiberboard, made and put together by hand, with a band of kozo washi paper embossed with the names of the featured artists. The edition is limited to 250 copies at most.
Plethora Magazine, 2025. 60 pages and eight paper works in a folder, up to 42 x 60 cm.
