Martin Parr × Maya Golyshkina
About
Martin Parr × Maya Golyshkina, innen, 2025
A toothpaste tube, a fried egg, an ear. Maya Golyshkina plays all of them.
Golyshkina was born in Moscow and lives in London. She photographs herself as everyday objects, in costumes she builds from cardboard and whatever is at home. In her crying videos the tears are household things, like eggs cracked over her eyes. She has worked with Balenciaga, Margiela and Prada, and her rule is to laugh at pain.
Martin Parr visited her at home in the summer of 2025 for a shoot and a long talk, published by CULTURED. "You have to stop people from smiling too much," he told her.
innen, the Zurich zine publisher, made this zine for their joint exhibition at Galerie Nicola von Senger, from 5 September to 15 November 2025. Sellers put her work next to Claude Cahun, Cindy Sherman and Gillian Wearing. Parr died that December, aged 73, so this is among the last exhibitions he took part in.
