Future Art Ecosystems 1: Art x Advanced Technologies
About
The first briefing from Future Art Ecosystems, Serpentine's project on the infrastructure that art made with advanced technologies depends on, published in 2020 as Art x Advanced Technologies.
It sets out to name and describe the structures now forming around artists who work with technology, and asks what that work needs in order to function and grow. The view it takes rests on Serpentine's own projects with Ian Cheng, Hito Steyerl, Jakob Kudsk Steensen, James Bridle and Cecile B. Evans, and on a round of interviews: with the artists Holly Herndon, Refik Anadol, Rebecca Allen and Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg, with Hyphen-Labs and Takashi Kudo of teamLab, and with figures from outside the studio such as Kenric McDowell of Google Research's Artists + Machine Intelligence programme, Julia Kaganskiy of NEW INC, the futurist Noah Raford and Rachel Armstrong of Newcastle University.
Made by Serpentine's R&D Platform together with Rival Strategy, in a small pocket format.
