Ernst van Alphen — Seven Logics of Sculpture: Encountering Objects Through the Senses
About
Ernst van Alphen, Seven Logics of Sculpture: Encountering Objects Through the Senses, Valiz, vis-à-vis series, 2022
Ernst van Alphen proposes seven 'logics' for understanding sculpture. He takes an analytical rather than historical approach, drawing on literature, philosophy, psychoanalysis, architecture and everyday culture. The logics deal with the senses, the body, objecthood, narrative, space, fragmentation and montage. Artists discussed include Henry Moore, Donald Judd, Lygia Clark, Bruce Nauman, Rachel Whiteread and Eva Hesse. Designed by Sam de Groot.
