Donald Judd Spaces
About
Donald Judd Spaces, second edition, Judd Foundation and MACK, 2026
The rooms and buildings Donald Judd arranged for living and working in New York and Texas, still as he left them.
Judd thought through every space for use and design, down to the furniture and the plain structures he designed himself. Judd Foundation keeps them as he installed them, from 101 Spring Street, a nineteenth century cast iron building in Manhattan, to Ayala de Chinati, a ranch in the mountains of west Texas.
Rainer Judd and Flavin Judd edited the book. New photographs taken for it sit next to archival ones, with five essays and his architectural and design drawings, and they cover the interiors, the exteriors and the land around each building. Seen together, the places show how much he cared about keeping old buildings, and how carefully he changed them.
This second edition is revised and expanded. It adds recently restored spaces, shown in print for the first time, elevations, a new foreword and an interview with Judd.
A good book to plan a trip to Marfa with.
