Their last joint performance, in 1988, was a 4,000 km walk along the Great Wall of China, each setting out from one end, which ended not in the marriage once planned but in their parting. They saw each other again during Abramović's \u003cem\u003eThe Artist Is Present\u003c\/em\u003e in 2010, and were in a legal dispute over rights in 2015.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThirty years after they separated, they agreed to meet for the film, and in August 2018 spent ten days talking at Abramović's house in upstate New York. Bech Dyg directed, edited and produced the film, released by Louisiana Channel at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in 2022. The two go back over the performances of their twelve years together, what the relationship cost them both, why they could not carry on, and the work that remains. Ulay died in 2020.
